Exploration Investment Company Botswana (EICB)

Botswana’s mining sector remains a cornerstone of the national economy, yet a significant portion of the country’s mineral potential remains underexplored. While existing institutions provide support across parts of the mining value chain, a critical gap exists in the early - to mid-stage exploration phases, where projects are high-risk, capital intensive, and often unable to attract sufficient private sector investment. This gap limits the progression of exploration activities into viable mining opportunities and constrains broader sector development. In response to these structural challenges, the Exploration Investment Company Botswana (EICB) has been established to bridge this gap by catalyzing early-stage exploration, reducing investment risk through targeted intervention, and enabling the progression of projects towards development, thereby unlocking Botswana’s untapped mineral potential and strengthening the overall mining ecosystem.
